49th Parallel Montreal | Lucky’s Doughnuts & Coffee in Old Montreal

Discover 49th Parallel Café & Lucky’s Doughnuts in Montreal

A Vancouver café concept has made its way to Old Montreal, bringing together specialty coffee and Lucky’s famous doughnuts under one roof. Located at 488 McGill Street, 49th Parallel Café & Lucky’s Doughnuts offers a spacious and stylish setting that feels like a destination of its own. During my visit, I was impressed by the large interior, modern décor, and relaxed atmosphere. Whether you're stopping in for a morning coffee, craving something sweet, meeting up with friends, or looking for a comfortable place to work, this café offers plenty of space to settle in and enjoy the experience. Its location also makes it an easy stop while exploring the nearby Old Port and the historic streets of Old Montreal.

Make it stand out

One of the first things I noticed about 49th Parallel Café & Lucky’s Doughnuts was how different it feels from many of the smaller coffee shops around Montreal. The café has a bright, vibrant interior with colourful décor that gives the space a fun and energetic personality without feeling overwhelming.

There is no need to worry about finding a seat at 49th Parallel. The café offers plenty of seating options throughout the space, making it easy to find a comfortable table whether you're stopping in alone or meeting up with friends. At the back, you'll find a smaller, more intimate corner that feels quieter and more secluded. I appreciated having the choice between the lively, open seating toward the front and the cosy, tucked-away space in the back.

The combination of the colourful design, comfortable seating, and generous amount of space makes 49th Parallel a unique spot to spend some time. It's the kind of café where you can bring your laptop and get some work done, casually meet up with friends, or simply relax with a coffee and something sweet while taking in the atmosphere.

Coffee, Doughnuts & More

The menu at 49th Parallel offers more than just coffee and doughnuts. You’ll find a selection of breakfast items, burgers, toast, salads, pastries, cakes, and other treats. The breakfast items, salads, and toast are available until 3 p.m., making it a convenient spot for a casual breakfast or lunch before settling in with a coffee.

The coffee has a bold and robust flavour that makes a lasting impression. I ordered a latte during my visit and enjoyed it, although I found the flavour lingered after each sip and wasn't quite as smooth and silky as I would have preferred. Still, it was a memorable cup of coffee and definitely had plenty of character.

If you're visiting for something sweet, there is plenty to choose from. Lucky’s Doughnuts offers more than a dozen varieties, each with its own unique flavour. So far, I've sampled the lemon and pineapple doughnuts, and both gave me a chance to try something a little different. At around $5 per doughnut before tax, I found the price quite reasonable considering the location and the overall café experience.

49th Parallel Café & Lucky’s Doughnuts is a standout coffee shop in Old Montreal, especially if you're seeking a coffee shop with great décor, plenty of space, and a relaxed atmosphere. The light menu makes it easy to stop in for breakfast, lunch, or a quick coffee break, while the selection of affordable doughnuts gives you another reason to visit. Whether you're craving a bold cup of coffee, a sweet treat, or a casual lunch, there is something for everyone.
